Storm Door Styles

Two things to consider when choosing storm doors and the view and screen storage. Screen doors come in 1/2 view, 3/4 view, and full view. Screens can be retractable or removable.

Full view storm doors allow more light but may not be the best option when kids or pets could damage the screen. 1/2 view and 3/4 view may be better options for homes with kids and pets or where additional privacy is preferred.

Most storm doors have retractable screens. Retractable screens are attached to the window pane on the bottom of the screen and a hidden roller on top, like a roller for a window shade. When the glass is pulled up, the screen rolls up and out of view. Retractable screens are available in full view, 1/2 view, and 3/4 view. The full view retractable screen will have a bar across the middle of the door and, when open, they will only vent at the top half as the glass will cover the bottom half.

Full view replaceable screens are also available. Replaceable screens are removed and interchanged with the glass. These won’t have the bar across the middle but they will require some space to store the glass and screen when not in use. Full view interchangeable storm doors allow the greatest amount of ventilation.
