We built a dog elevator!

Penny is an older dog with bad hips who's having trouble getting up the stairs to her second floor home. We built her this elevator so she can ride up and down in style. Most of her projects are small but Penny is such a sweet dog that we couldn't resist helping her out.

After she gets used to it I'll post another video of her taking a ride.

While we don't do a lot of bigger jobs there are some that we will do. We painted the entire downstairs for customers in #roxboroughpa and then they asked if we could refresh their first floor powder room. We replaced their vanity, mirror, lighting, and tile floor.

Not pictured: Replacement of the drop ceiling with drywall and reinforcing the floor framing since it was severely lacking in adequate support 😳😳😳.

How to fix a door that won't stay closed . . .

Sometimes a door won't stay closed because the strike plate and the latch aren't lined up properly. The first thing to check is that the hinges are secured properly. Sometimes loose hinge screws can make the door hang which throws out the alignment between the latch and the strike plate.

If the hinges look good, the strike plate they need to be moved. Moving the strike plate means taking it out and cutting a small bit of the jamb out to allow the strike plate to sit flush.

If the strike plate just needs a very small adjustment the metal can be shaved down to allow the latch to seat properly. It can be done with a drill and a special bit but it's a lot more efficient to use a Dremel tool with a cutting bit.

We're working with a customer in #roxboroughpa who

We're working with a customer in #roxboroughpa who is remodeling their kitchen and wanted our help with a few projects on their list. This project is a base for their new kitchen island.

The kitchen island will be made with IKEA base cabinets. Since the cabinets aren't attached to a wall the Island needs a solid structure so it can be attached to the floor for support.

This same base design can also be used for installing closet cabinets and shelving.

We started with 2x6s and rip them down to four and a half inches so the cabinets would be at the right height. We used corner clamps to make sure to have perfect 90° angles and then secured the corners with 3-in construction screws. We cut corner braces with two ends at 45° and blocking to give a bit of extra support in the middle.

New barn doors!!!

Just finished building and installing these two custom barn doors for customers in #roxboroughpa. The doors were built using 4x8 sheets of birch plywood in an H style to match the existing interior doors.

Just finished up these custom floating alcove shelves for a customer in #manayunk . The frames are built with 2x2s, tops and bottoms were built with two sheets of birch presentation grade plywood, the facades were made with pine boards, and then finished with an oil-based stain and polyurethane.
